Why subscribe to Marginalia?

My name is Dominic Hofstede. I am a graphic designer, educator, occasional writer and amateur design historian. In 2025 I founded Typographic Services, a graphic design studio defined by typographic expertise. In 2009 I created Re:collection, an online archive of Australian graphic design from the 1960s–80s, and alongside Vincent Chan and Robert Janes I established the Antipodean type foundry Counter Forms in 2023.

‘Marginalia’ refers to the notes written in the margins of a book. I chose the name because I see this platform as an opportunity to share my personal observations and experiences selecting, sourcing and setting type. And because I really love books.
